Nigeria: Siasia Gives NFF Two Weeks Ultimatum To Pay Outstanding Salaries

Former Dream Team VI coach Samson Siasia has told the Nigerian Football federation to pay him his outstanding salary in 14-days or face legal actions.
The 49-year-old further threatened to protest in front of the NFF secretariat if he doesn’t get his pay within two weeks.

Siasia, who took the Dream Team VI to Olympic Bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, resigned in August citing the expiration of his contract with the NFF.

He said despite quitting his role the Glass House must pay him all he is owed.

Following a meeting last month with Siasia and sports minister, Solomon Dalung, the NFF General Secretary Sanusi Mohammed assured that the coach would soon receive his outstanding allowances.

However the federation admitted that it is cash strapped, noting that the problem associated with the country’s Treasury Single Account is the reason behind its failure to pay him.

However up till today the body is yet to pay the outstanding allowance.

“I have given them a two-week ultimatum to me pay me or I will sit inside the NFF office in Abuja until I get paid,” Siasia told BBC Sports.

Siasia served as Super Eagles’ Head Coach between December 2010 and October 2011, before his contract was terminated following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also coached the National u23 and u20 sides to second place finishes at the 2008 Olympics and the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup

Pay rows have often surrounded Nigerian teams, with coaches not paid regularly, while players have boycotted training during important qualifiers or at major tournaments over unpaid bonus.

Due to the current recession facing the country, the NFF has cut their backroom staff and slashed the salaries and allowances of the various national team coaches, excluding new Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr.

Manchester City’s : Iheanacho insists praise does not get into his head

Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho has said he is not allowing recent encomiums get into head.
The Super Eagles forward has attracted a lot of praise from fans and pundits alike, as Pep Guardiola’s team maintain a perfect start in the new season.
Iheanacho has found himself deputising for Sergio Aguero during the Argentine’s three-match ban and became the first Nigerian player to feature and score in a Manchester Derby.
The 19-year-old insists he still has a lot to learn and is keeping his head down.
“I’m not letting all the praise get to my head because I still have a lot to learn in this game,” Iheanacho told BBC Sport.
“It’s been a very progressive period for me at the club, but playing alongside stars like Sergio [Aguero], Yaya [Toure] and other great players provides a big chance to keep working hard.
“I’m definitely learning, quietly listening and watching others closely every day – I know in doing that I will achieve bigger things in my career.
“We have experienced players in the team and as someone who is learning and improving, I am happy to take my chance when the manager calls,” he continued.
“Our manager has confidence in me and has been encouraging me.
“All I want to do right now is to keep learning under him and work hard for the club.
“I score goals not just because I am playing up front but because I get to play in a fantastic team.
“Our defenders and midfielders supply the passes and support for me to deliver, so it is a collective effort.”

Nigeria/ Zambia: World Cup Qualifier - Shoronmu Urges Super Eagles to Defeat Zambia's Chipolopolo

A Super Eagles former Assistant Coach, Ike Shorunmu, on Monday urged the team to defeat the Chipolopolo of Zambia to brighten their chances of qualifying for World Cup in 2018.
Shorunmu said in Lagos that every player invited to represent the country should see it as a call to national duty.
"Getting an invitation to the national team is a privilege, invited players should ensure that they justify their inclusion in the team and make the nation proud.
"As we all know talents are everywhere, so, for you to be selected means the technical crew has confidence in you to represent the country.
"I can only urge the players to play as a team, resume camp early enough and listen to instructions and obey them," Shorunmu said.
On Odion Ighalo's exclusion from the list due to family engagement, Shorunmu, the number one goalkeeper in the 1990s, said that his absence would affect the team.
"Odion is a fantastic player but just as we know, one man does not make a team; there are other players that can fit in. Others are equally good too.
"I believe as a team, the boys will qualify from the group stage which will console us a great deal for missing out on the Africa Cup Nations in Gabon," he said.
Ighalo was excluded from the list to enable him to attend his father's burial scheduled for Oct. 8.
Ighalo scored 17 goals in 42 appearances last season in the English Premier League.
Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has released a 23-man squad for the first leg of the encounter against Zambia.
Rohr beefed up the team with Turkey-based defender, Kenneth Omeruo and Belgium-based Anderson Esiti.
Other members of the team include Captain Mikel Obi and his Assistant Ahmed Musa.
Others are goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, defender Elderson Echiejile, midfielder Ogenyi Onazi and Manchester City of England forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
English Premiership duo of Isaac Success and Alex Iwobi, were added to the fold.
Injured KAA Gent FC of Belgium striker Moses Simon is also listed after assuring Coach Rohr that he has started treatment and would be fit for the encounter.
All invited players are expected to have arrived in Abuja by Oct. 2.
